This year could mark the end of the 3G network with companies like Vodafone planning on finalising the complete switch off of 3G by the end of 2023. You may think that with the adoption of 4G and 5G, the effect will be minimal, however, it is estimated that 80 million devices worldwide are still reliant on 3G.
To make sure you don’t get caught out, we have detailed the timeline below so you can make the change before it's too late.
Vodafone’s current timeline
February 2023
Vodafone will begin initiating its first switch-off in Basingstoke and Plymouth throughout February. Affected users known to utilise their devices in these areas will be addressed and actioned first.
June 2023
Based on the success of the initial phase affecting Plymouth and Basingstoke, the wider national switch-off of the Vodafone 3G network will begin. This project will be carried out on a region-by-region basis but at this stage, there are no details about the order in which regions will be addressed.
We will update our customers when we know their region will be affected.
December 2023
Vodafone is aiming to finalise and achieve a complete 3G switch-off before the end of 2023.
